The first step is to inspect the property and determine the types and level of damage. In the case of some small fires, the damage is contained to a small area and the restoration process is simple. Larger fires, however, can affect extensive areas of the building. In many cases, fires are accompanied by water damage or chemical residues due to firefighting efforts.

After our experts have had a chance to examine your property, they will develop a detailed restoration plan. This is a road map that you can follow to see how the clean-up is progressing.

Once our team has the approval of you and your insurance company, the LaPointe crew gets to work. Some of your belongings may be removed to prevent further damage and either stored or taken off-site for specialty cleaning. Water is removed using industrial pumps, dehumidifiers, and air circulators depending on conditions.

Once the area is cleared and dry, damaged materials are removed or repaired. Generally, drywall, carpeting, and wood flooring need to be replaced after a fire. Ceramic and stone, metals, and glass can often be cleaned and repaired.

The next step is to perform a thorough cleaning. Soot and ashes are cleaned using wet or dry cloths, cleaning solutions, and other methods. During this stage everyone in the area should still be wearing a mask to prevent inhaling carcinogens. Careful cleaning is critical to prevent further damage from acids in the smoke and soot.

Once the area is cleaned, construction begins to replace damaged walls, floors, ceilings, stairs, and other parts of the home or business. This can take anywhere from a few days to many weeks depending on the design of the home and extent of damage.

After the structure is restored, any lingering odors can be eliminated using air scrubbers, deodorizing foggers, and other means. The team at LaPointe Construction makes sure that there are no traces left before a job is declared complete.
