Fire Damage Reconstruction and Water Removal
Water is a very large problem when it comes to fires. Considering that there are hundreds to thousands of gallons that are pumped into your house to put out the blaze, you can see why. Some of the water evaporates; some of the water will also be caught in the house. The water then mixes with the plastics, the liquids, and other damaged substances in the house. This also can flood the basement quite easily and cause additional damages.
What do I Need?
LaPointe Construction utilizes huge pumps to remove the water that is left behind after a fire. You will need to get this equipment in order to remove the water and begin the next steps. This equipment can be rented from a supply store like Home Depot.
In order to use the equipment you will need a water pump with hoses as well, which will allow you to move all of the water. You will also want to make sure that you get the strongest pump possible. You should consult with an expert at the store to be sure you get the right one.
You will also want to get a press extractor, this is a machine that will press down on all of the carpets and remove as much water as possible and soak it up. If you act fast enough, you may be able to save the carpet. You will need to use the extractor to push out the water, it is impossible to push out the water without one because of the weight of the carpet. In addition to this you will see that there are many other uses for it as well. If you have wooden floors you may not need the extractor, but you will probably have to replace the floors because they will be warped from the water.
Soot Removal a How To
Once the water is removed you will be able to find out what damage has been caused by the fire. You need to look the soot that has gotten everywhere and remove it. Then you will be able to see what can be restored and what has to be trashed.
Soot is left behind by the smoke that comes from the fire and it is hard to clean, because it will have an oily base and there are many plastics that will have burned. This is the main reason that it is hard to simply wipe off soot with a rag. You will need a good cleaning chemical to help you with the job; you will want trisodium phosphate cleaner. You will also need a degreaser that will allow you to remove the soot. When it is time to remove the soot you will need the following.
- Cleaner listed above.
- Many large buckets.
- Sponges of all kinds.
- Many large and heavy trash bags.
Soot finds its way into almost everything, so be ready to look at and clean everything and use a ton of effort. That will mean that a little cleaner will go a long way.
